Abstract
A study on the perceptions and the needs
of pre-service early childhood teachers
on the forest kindergarten

The purpose of this study was to examine the perceptions and the needs of pre-service early childhood teachers on the forest kindergarten. The subjects in this study were the pre-service early childhood teachers who were selected from the Jeollanam-do province. The data analysis for the survey was carried out through frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The findings of the study were as follows: First, the perceptions of pre-service early childhood teachers on forest and human beings demonstrated a strong preference. Second, concerning the necessity and educational effect on the forest kindergarten won the sympathy of pre-service early childhood teachers. As to the reason for the necessity of forest kindergarten, they felt that the forest kindergarten would serve to boost the emotional stability of preschoolers. The largest number of the teachers, who didn’t feel the need for the kindergartens didn’t think that it would be easy to link the curriculum of the forest kindergartens to that of elementary school. Third, the need concerning the necessity of pre-service early childhood teachers on the forest kindergarten education in curriculum was high. The Practical activity method on the forest kindergarten was high as the need concerning educational content. The Subject opening related to the forest kindergarten was high as the need concerning educational method on the forest kindergarten.
