운동의 중요한 과제로 삼고 있었다는 점에서 드러난다. 특히 노동시간을 줄이는 문제는 실업을 해결하고, 실질임금을 증가시키며, 기계도입의 문제를 건설적으로 해결하고, 노동자들의 여가를 증진시킨다는 다중적 목적을 지니고 있었으므로 신디칼리스트 운동이 공허한 구호를 외치거나 멀리 있는 추상적인 목표를 추구하지 않고 실제적인 이해관계에 관심을 지니고서 가장 효과적인 방법을 찾아 나가고 있었음을 보여 준다.
3. 신디칼리즘에는 간섭과 지시를 거부하고 개별노동자들의 자발성을 지향하는 요소와 함께 '연대의 추구'에서 나타나는 바처럼 산별노조라는 거대단일노조를 지향하는 요소가 함께 있다. 전자를 두고 신디칼리즘이 가진 원심력이라고 한다면 후자는 구심력이라고 할 수 있겠다. 기묘하게도 신디칼리즘은 이 두 요소를 동시에 추구한다. 그러므로 신디칼리즘을 분산과 통일을 함께 추구하며 새로운 종합을 이루어 나가려한 사상으로 이해할 수 있을 것이다. 신디칼리스트들은 자발성에 기초를 두었지만 연대를 통해 거대한 조직으로 묶일 수 있는 노동자조직을 만들어내려 했던 것이다.
4. 신디칼리스트의 운동은 숙련노동자를 중요한 한 축으로 삼고 있기는 하지만 결국 비숙련노동자들과 일용노동자들 그리고 실업자들을 위한 운동이었다. 그들은 고용주만을 상대로 기득권을 버리라고 주장하고 있는 것이 아니라 숙련노동자들을 향해서도 기득권을 버릴 것을 주장하고 있다. 노동자들의 차별화를 지양하는 방법은 산업에 대해 노동자통제를 주장하는 것과 임금제 폐지의 요구 속에서 한 차원 높게 추구된다.
5. 신디칼리스트들은 사회의 보다 큰 변화를 염두에 두고 있으면서도, 멀리 떨어진 중앙에서 일어나는 변화보다 그들이 현재 활동하고 있는 작업현장에서 일어나는 변화를 원했으며, 또 지금 바로 일어날 수 있고 노동자들에게 실제적 이익을 줄 수 있는 구체적인 변화들을 만들어 내는 데 관심을 가졌다. 그러면서도 또한 그러한 변화가 보다 확실하고 연속적으로 일어날 수 있는 운동방법을 원했다. 그들의 실용적인 주장들과 분파주의를 넘어서는 연대의 추구는 바로 이런 방식의 변화를 이끌어 내기 위한 노력이었던 것이다.

The Methodological Characteristics of British Syndicalism
Illuminated through 'Solidarity' and 'Realistic Approach'

The characteristics of British Syndicalism come out through its methodology. The part which can be emphasized as methodology could be the pursuing of solidarity and the realistic approach. In the process of pursuing the solidarity, syndicalists tried to not only pursue the solidarity which has industry as its unit, going over the craft of workers, but also overcome the hostility between skilled workers and unskilled workers, the separation between manual workers and clerical workers, and the division between regular workers and casual workers. These efforts prove that syndicalists had more extensive view to establish the workers' control of industry for the profit of whole society rather than just ensure the relative profits of workers of different groups.
In addition, syndicalist movement shows very practical aspects in its methodology. Syndicalists considered wage and working hours as important tasks, and especially believed that they could accomplish many different purposes by solving the unemployment problem through the reduction of working hours, increasing wage level, regulating problems caused by the adoption of machinery and securing workers' leisure, etc. These points show that syndicalists paid much attention to actual interests rather than just cry out hollow slogans or pursue abstract objectives.
Syndicalists kept higher-level changes of society in their minds, and at the same time showed interest in making detailed changes, which were going on at the very moment and could bring actual profits to workers. Also they tried to pursue effective movement methods which can guarantee positive and continuous changes. Their pursuit of solidarity overcoming factionalism and their practical opinions proved their efforts to lead these positive changes in their own ways.
