➢ Restless legs syndrome (RLS)
　: Chronic neurological disorder that may require lifelong treatment

　✔ Majority of patients with RLS
　　: respond well to medications

　✔ Augmentation (Medication-related complication) & its Management : One of the most important part

　✔ Subset of patients
　　: progress to severe or refractory RLS (malignant RLS)

➢ Restless legs syndrome (RLS)
　: Circadian disorder of sensory-motor integration

　✔ Manifestation
: Urge or a need to move the limbs to stop unpleasant sensations in the evening or while at rest

　✔ Diagnosis
　　: Based on the 2012 revised International Restless Legs Syndrome Study Group (IRLSSG) diagnostic criteria

　✔ Compared to 2003 criteria, the 2012 version
　　: Include ① Criteria to R/O RLS mimickers ② Essential diagnostic criteria




Introduction

➢ 2012 Version of IRLSSG Diagnostic Criteria

　① Urge to move the legs, usually but not always accompanied by or felt to be caused by uncomfortable and unpleasant sensations in the legs

　② The urge to move the legs + Any accompanying unpleasant sensations
　　1) Begin or worsen during periods of rest or inactivity
　　　(Ex. Lying down or sitting)

　　2) Only occur or worse in the evening or night than during the day

　　3) Not solely accounted for by other medical or behavioral conditions
　　　(Ex. Myalgia, venous stasis, leg edema, arthritis, leg cramps etc.)
