Education System
1. Each medium of education must operate consistently with the dental hygienists educational process.
- Each educational medium should include core courses and clinic lab hours with an increase in time for real-world experience to resolve the problem of the differences between the learning process and the real-world work environment. The ratio of time spent between course/lab to real-world experience should approach 5 : 5 or at least 6 : 4.
- After employment there is a need for extraterritorial and professional practice to set a foundation that should have its scope within the bounds of expected duties.
- A unified and established educational curriculum must be attained.
2. All educational mediums for dental hygiene education must have provisions implemented to meet obligations in established dental clinics.
3. To accommodate the need of dental hygiene education, educational facilities must be established that is closely related to dental hygienists needs and expectations.
- Four years of study towards a bachelor degree
- A Degree Completion Program should be implemented for an ongoing and continuous study, three years after graduation.
4. Rather than implementing non-essential courses like Clinic Dentistry, courses in Dental Assisting should be established and be integrated with core courses.
5. Because a dental hygienists job requires coming in close contact with saliva and blood, independent courses must be established to provide infection control that includes correct sterilization techniques.
Examination System
1. To improve the quality of dental hygienists, the examination system must make mandatory examinations that include lab and real-world performance examinations.
- Oral prophylaxis: current structures of medical methods must be improved.
- Oral hygiene education: in addition to merely filling knowledge into the mind, the ability to grasp techniques for problem resolution should be developed.
2.. In order to improve abilities in dentistry charting techniques, medical examination methods for a patients health history and oral condition should be implemented into exams to assess real-world performance techniques and scenarios for testing candidates.
