When I was in high school, I read this novel, George Orwell’s Animal Farm, but it was never required reading for me, so it took me some time to finally get around to reading it. I found it to be an enjoyable reading that had me hooked from the first sentence. This is an excellent exercise in metaphor and visionary imagination. While this book might be a very short reading for some of you in this class, it brings a lot to the table by giving you an interesting time on how history could be reenacted in the freshest ways.
Actually, the author, George Orwell was not only the writer of 1984 but Animal Farm as well as written many essays and articles. If you’ve read or heard of 1984, the society was in the future under Big Brother, a totalitarian dictatorship where nothing was sacred. I think this book, Animal Farm is more effective and definitely better text than 1984.
This is the story about a farm of animals who take over the farm against Jones, a drunken, abusive farmer and master of Manor Farm. The animals on Jones' farm have enough of what they deem to be slavery. They're tired of being ordered around by humans while they find no benefits in their daily routine. This is all sparked by a dream that the boar, Major, had about a special place where animals called the shots and never had to be ordered around by humans again. He tells them a revolution is needed. When Major dies, the animals act quickly and are able to overthrow the alcoholic farmer and his thugs from his farm.
