취업은 곧 정보다. 남보다 더 많은 정보를 가지고 있으면 실력에서 부족한 부분을 충분히 메울 수 있다. 특히 외국인 회사의 경우는 더욱 그렇다. IMF 관리 체제에 들어서면서 국내 기업들은 구조조정이다, 빅딜이다 해서 고초를 겪었던 반면 국내에 진출해 있는 외국기업들은 그 기간동안에도 약진을 계속했다. 특히 제조, 제약, 컨설팅, 정보통신, 유통 업종이 국내 업계를 위협하고 있다. 또한 외국인 투자도 크게 늘어 `98년 7백 97건에 88억 5천만 달러(출처 : 월간 리크루트 `99. 8월호, p.43)로 사상 최대 규모를 기록했다. 이에 국내 시장에 진출한 외국계 기업들은 최근들어 채용을 늘리고 있으며 수시 채용을 하고 있는 대부분의 외국기업들은 상당수 인력을 계속 채용할 전망이다.
외국인회사는 입사를 희망하는 사람들에게 있어 큰 매력을 지닌 곳으로 여겨지고 있다. 특히 남성보다 여성 취업 준비자들이 더 큰 관심을 가지고 있다. 대부분의 취업 희망자들은 잘못된 환상에 빠져 있는 경우가 많은 데 외국인회사도 이익을 추구하는 영리집단이기 때문에 높은 급여를 받거나 좋은 환경에서 근무한다면 그 정도의 업무능력과 실적은 당연히 요구되는 것임을 간과해서는 안 될 것이다.
