Abstract
A Study on the Introduction and Implementation of Internet-Based Electronic Commerce for Hospital
Recently, Electronic Commerce(EC) is increasingly used in the business sector as internet technology is rapidly improving. While hospitals have the similar exchanging commercial factors to the business including insurance claims and drugs logistics, application of EC between patients and hospitals has been very slow in Korea.
In this study, a possibility of introducing EC to outpatient reservation at hospitals was analyzed and EC model for internet-based outpatient reservation system was developed.
Present outpatient reservation system and its EC model were analyzed using structural methods such as DFD (Data Flow Diagram), HIPO (Hierarchy plus Input-Process-Output), and E-R (Entity-Relationship) diagram. In addition, present and proposed patient reservation process were analyzed using BPR (Business Process Reengineering) method.
To successfully introduce a hospital-wide EC, 3-stage implementation strategy was also suggested in this study: hospital promotion in stage 1; internet-based patient reservation system in stage2; and internet-based EC for other hospital management such as purchasing and logistics in stage 3.
It is expected that EC can improve efficiency of patient reservation process and quality of service for patients at hospital. EC can also help strengthen a competitiveness of hospitals by establishing direct and personalized relationship with patients through internet.
