우리가 평소에 하는 입을 열거나 닫는 운동, 씹는 운동이나 그 밖에 다양한 아래턱의 운동은 두 개의 temporomandibular joint를 중심으로 이루어진다. Temporomandibular joint를 중심으로 한 mandible의 운동은 그 주위를 둘러싼 각종 근육과 인대 등에 의해 가능하고 이를 바탕으로 mandible은 protrusion, retraction, elevation, depression 등의 운동을 할 수 있게 된다. 이번 report에서는 temporomandibular joint를 중심으로 한 부위의 해부학적 위치에 대해 자세히 알아보고 mandible의 운동과 그 중에서도 특히 이번 report의 주제인 elevation과정에 대해 주의 깊게 살펴보도록 한다.
